The Vision for the larp
Mad about the Boy is a larp about survivors of a global disaster which killed more than half of humanity. An inexplicable disease killed all the men in mere minutes. Now, three years later the surviving women are facing not only the enormous task of rebuilding society, but also the possible extinction of humanity. The world of the larp is inspired by the graphic novel Y the Last Man by Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra.
The larp is now over. Thanks to all participants who came to game! A manuscript making it possible for others to make their own version of this larp will be published here later.

We will not use any characters or storylines from the graphic novel, however. Our story will be about a group of women who have applied to a Nordic insemination program. As sperm has become a very precious resource, there are only a few women who will be given this privilege. The first act of the larp will center around the selection of who will get to enter the program to become mothers, and what new family structures will be the best ones to raise these precious children. Act one of the larp will end with a man entering - the only one who has survived the catastrophy. How will each woman relate to this man? He can be seen as a possible father, lover, threat, valuable resource or relic from a past best left behind for good. Before the end of the second and final act the women will have to decide what to do with him.

After the disaster some women started making video diaries about their experiences. This is an excerpt from the video diary of a woman called Tara.
If you feel inspired to make a video diary as well from the world of Mad about the Boy send it to us. It can be from a character which you will play at the larp or just some person you invent on the spot.

Mad About the Boy will be played twice in week 26, 2010.
We will play the scenario twice, once with only female participants. The other with male and female participants, both playing women.The women only run takes place from the evening of 28. June until the morning of 1. July. The mixed one, runs from the evening of 1. July until morning 4. July.
The site of the larp will be a nice old school building in Trysil which has been turned into a guest house. Accommodation and food will be provided for the duration of the larp. Trysil is 210 kilometers North of Oslo. A direct buss back and forth from Oslo to the larp venue is being booked by us. The bus will leave Oslo at 13.00 on the 28th of June for the first game and 13.00 on the 1st of July for the second game. The buss will stop at Gardemoen airport on it's way to Trysil (apr. 13.45) if anyone tells us that they would like to be picked up there. Send us an email if that is the case. The buss will return to Oslo at apr. 16.00 on the 1st of July for the first game and at 13.00 on the 4th of July for the second. It will be in Oslo city centre about 2½ hours after that. It can also stop at Gardemoen on it's way back if we are told in advance.
The price for going with the bus is 300 Norwegian kroner. The bus will leave from Hotel Opera right next to the central train station (the side of the station facing the sea and the opera house).
You can also drive there yourself if you have your own car or take a regular bus with Nor-Way Bussexpress if the times of our bus don't fit you. Search for Hammeren leirsted in Google Maps to find directions.
